Sylvan Learning Center cheaper to employee's than Walmart is

It's kind of amusing to see an educator with a teaching accreditation change career's into the customer service industry. But when you meet one who quit to join walmart - it's down right sad.
Why? Because a 25 year old walmart clerk shouldn't be making as much money as a teacher with a college degree!
I know two girl's quiting their tutoring position's at their local sylvan branch (nick named 'hamburger hill') for walmart. With walmart you actually have job security - even benefit's. More so, you don't need to feel like your conning over evry parent  who walks in your door.
Your giving people what you pay for!

If Walmart charged as much as sylvan does (compared to what their spending) - a gallon of milk would cost 12 dollars.

Dear Teachers - no more lunch breaks for you!

Starting next month, the teachers at my local sylvan center will all be working longer days (to compensate for high gas prices) and will no longer be allowed to take a 30 minute break for lunch.

Yes, Sylvan has abolished the lunch Break! What bastards.

Sylvan philosophy: Teachers are rungs on the ladder of success;  get used to stepping on them.

Sylvan Sued for Discrimination

An angry mom sues Sylvan learning center, and wins, after the staff refused to accommodate her son’s disability.

Alas, there is Justice in this world! It doesn’t surprise me that Sylvan would brush off a deaf kid. I mean, I’ve seen them brush off normal students that didn’t require any extra attention. But accommodating deaf kids! That goes against every penny squeezing piece of corporate culture that sylvan believes in – seriously, they would lose 100’s of dollars a year!

Moral of the story for parents: Conduct random stake out’s of your children’s tutoring sessions to ensure your actually getting the service you are paying for.

Sylvan pay's their teacher's near minimum wage; thus passing the savings to you!

Sylvan has made an art out of cutting corner's in education expenses: did you know that they barely pay their teacher's minimum wage? $12/hour is the starting salary for credentialed teacher's here in LA - twelve measly dollars! Now what does Sylvan charge parent's per hour you ask? 50 Dollars!
Adding insult to injury; sylvan then often will group together 2 to 4 kids with a single tutor whom more likely than not hates her working there.

Its worth paying for your kids to have a good education; however, in the case of Sylvan, you aren't getting what you pay for. Sending your kids to sylvan for the day can mean paying $100/hour for a $7 tutor. Where does all the money go - a persons pocket?
What do you think?
